PHRIENDLY
WORDS ABOUT PHIX
These
remarks were plucked directly from actual form submittals and
e-mails, from actual people who've actually seen us play.
our comments in green.
And
we don't want you to think that it's all just love and affection.
There are a few people out there who don't appreciate what we
do AT ALL. Thankfully they seem to be a minority, but if you want
to read what they have to say, scroll toward the bottom of this
page or just click here.
First
of all let be start by saying I have never seen you guys live
before. So these cooments are based on the premise of phix not
your performance. I have read other fans and non-fans comments
and i could not resist throwing in my thoughts. In my eyes what
you guys are doing is fantastic. I am an old school phish fan
who has been catching the boys for over a decade now. I remember
the days of being able to walk up to a venue the day of a show
and buy a ticket. No hassle, no worries. Obviously those days
are over. To catch a phish show now it requires either months
of planning ahead or a lot of luck. So to have a band that can
provide me w/ a dose of phish during the times i am unable to
see the real thing makes me very excited. I am a fan of the boy's
music not their stardom. To be completely honest much of my live
phish experience has been spent w/ my eyes closed just absorbing
their flow. I would jump at any chance to see a band play some
phish tunes whether their name was phix or otherwise. It is about
the music plain and simple. I may be wrong but I don't see much
difference between what you guys are to phish compared to what
Dark Star Orchestra is to The Grateful Dead. I know many will
say that The Grateful Dead are no more so a tribute band is appropriate
but I do not agree. I could go on for a while but I will wrap
this up. All I can say is good luck to all of you and please keep
on doing what you are doing. I see it as a great service to a
great community. There will always be critics and they are entitled
to their opinion but let it be known their are alot of us out
here that cannot wait to get their first phix. Just one music
fan's opinion.
I
just wanted to say thanks for the great show last night. I loved
what you did with my setlist! I had worried that the second set
was not as well thought out as the first, but everyone (including
me) totally loved it (with the exception of one or two Meatstick
haters). Show highlights for me were Free, AC/DC Bag, and Runaway
Jim. And Paul, your segues from Moma Dance into Meatstick and
YEM into Roses were truly amazing. Great job to all of you, and
I meant it when I said that your light show has improved greatly
since last year. I hope to see you all soon after I move back
to Colorful Colorado.
Don't
tell anyone, but there are allegedly one or two Meastick haters
in this band too.
This
letter was received from Jeff Fells, whose wedding we played on
Long Island on 9/18/03
Gentlemen, Firstly, I do not know how to thank you enough for
what was the best night of my life. You all were incredible and
sounded sooooo good. I got so many compliments on both the surprise
of having you and the fact that you guys rocked the joint. My
wedding would not have been the same without you there. My friends
have not stopped telling me how fucking unreal the wedding was
and how fantastic you guys were. They all think you guys blew
the roof off that temple. Our planning was perfect and I appreciate
you dealing with my anal antics. You guys have a great thing going
and I look forward to following your progression and seeing you
in your own element sometime soon. I hope you enjoyed it as much
as we did. I cannot wait to see the video. Please keep in touch
and thanks again for the best phix I have had in quite some time.
All
the best,
The groom, Jeffrey Fells
Thanks so much, Jeff, for letting
us share in the groove on what is arguably the most important
day of your life. We never blew the roof off a temple before!
I
just wanted to drop a quick note. Last Thursday Sept 18th at my
twin brother's wedding I was surprised to find out that there
would be a late night band playing. Little did I realize, that
the Phix was playing until I heard the opening cords of Boogie
on. I must say u guys rock and I know that there was a lot of
other people present who loved it as well. My brother's and I
are big phans of the Dead and Phish, and to have u guys rock like
that, made the night even more memorable. Also we have seen hundreds
of live shows from the boys, including cover bands, and never
have we been more impressed. Please come back to NYC soon as there
is definitely a bigger audience waiting.
Yeah, we love NY too...too bad
it's so damn far away from us!
You
guys played a huge portion of my "wishlist" at your
Boston show on 9/19. I just wanted to say thank you so much! What
a rush to hear all of those songs. I didn't stop dancing the whole
night. Honestly, you gave me a stress busting night that was MUCH
needed! Thanks! Second, what an exceptional performance. The musicianship
you guys have is very impressive--- that might have been the cleanest
Reba I have ever seen live! Your band is doing a great service
to those of us who love this music. We get to see the songs we
love when we wouldn't normally get to do so. And, you perform
it wtih such respect and good taste.
We
just got lucky on "Reba" that time.
hey
guys i saw the show last night at the Recher {Towson, MD}, I downloaded
a show you preformed that's available for download at momadance.com,
before the event then i saw you guys last night and it blew me
away. I just wanted to say that you all are freaking incredible
musicians. I loved it, there's no other way i could see those
songs preformed with such talent in such a close setting. You
all are doing a wonderful thing out there providing for people
such as myself such a wonderful experience. The music just brings
joy to my face, and i thought you preformed everything beautifully.
It brings joy to our faces too,
along with an occasional look of confusion.
Holy
crap. I can't believe what I'm listening to (yall playing Reba
streaming from your website). I was VERY skeptical. I made my
way to your site after seeing a show of yours posted to archive.org.
wow. sweet guitar solo in the quiet section. gentle and subtle
and sensitive and DAMN I'M FEELING IT. I thought that Trey had
a unique gift for pulling that particular flavor of energy down
and through (well, he does) but he doesn't have a patent on it
cause you can do it just as sweetly. thanks for doing what you're
doing. don't mind those who don't understand. you're not stealing.
you're giving Phish the highest compliment that you, as fans and
musicians, possibly could.
Thanks! Trey's (and Phish's) gift
certainly is unique, but part of the beauty of their music is
that it allows US to be unique within it too.
I
was never a big fan of the whole coverband scene... And before
I saw my first phix show i was a bit, i dunno, resentful (lack
of a better word) that I was about to hear other people play what
trey mike page and jon have worked so hard to put together and
make absolutely incredible. I felt like their passion and dedication
and energy, and most importantly their ability to compliment each
other musically was what made those songs Phish songs..How could
anyone else recreate that??? After seeing phix however, my perspective
changed... watching them get off, and everyone in the audiance,
myself included get off, i realized its all about the music and
the vibe--and it was definitely there. :)
Wow,
thanks. We feel the same way.
I
got my first Phix last weekend at the House of Blues in Chicago.
I had such a good time that I rounded up a few friends, borrowed
a car and came out to Durty Nellies for the second night. To be
quite frank, I was blown away. I've been listening to Phish for
about six or seven years now, and I couldn't believe how well
you guys played.
And
we can't believe how much fun we have in Chicago.
What
a great show last night in St. Louis!! I was excited about the
show all day and was blown away by you guys. Lizards was GREAT!!
not to mention divided sky and loving cup! you guys are a lot
of fun and your passion for wonderful music is apparent. Can't
wait to see you all again....but couldn't you have given away
the Phish tickets at the St. Louis show?
Honestly,
I thought the show was amazing. Really, blew me away. I'd love
to see you play sleeping monkey! That would be great. No, I'm
not going to ask you to play destiny unbound...although.. heh...
I was the kid in Raleigh, NC screaming Sleeping Monkey all show,
never got it. Oh well. Can't wait til next time you're here!
OK
Eric, you got your Sleeping Monkey, are you satisfied now?
Great
time. One has to go to a show in order to truly realize these
guys take the songs and put great original jams into them. Lots
of fun. Come back to Tahoe soon.
Wait
a minute, you want us to return to a place of immeasurable, pristine
natural beauty to play to a kick-ass crowd again? I don't know.
Maybe if you throw in some lift tickets.
I
had a freaking blast! Went to the show Sat. night at the Bluebird.
At first I didn't know what to think, but the more I listened
to you the more I couldn't believe what I was seeing. You guys
are a spitting image of Phish and do a heck of a job. I gotta
hand it to ya! Plus when you guys busted out Possum I about shook
myself out of my shoes. I danced my body apart, thank you for
the good time.
I
saw your show at the Canopy Club on September 27th
it was
unbelievable; and that doesnt even begin to describe how
incredible you guys are. I got into Phish last summer but have
only been a half-hearted phan at best, at least until you guys
showed up. Me and a buddy met this really cool, not to mention
hot, chick at the show and that only added to the experience.
That was one of the best three and a half hours of my life. Every
jam was transcendent, every second beyond enjoyable, and every
note was perfect.
Do
you mean the 3 1/2 hours we were playing or the 3 1/2 hours after
the show you were with the hot chick?
The
Raleigh show was great! Tons of energy from the band and fans
alike. Get back here soon!
I
was at the Metro show in Chicago and you guys ROCKED. It was an
awesome show - I had such a fabulous time dancing. All of you
are amazing musicians and I must give you props for your interpretations
of phish songs. Hope to see you back in the Chi-town area soon!
Madison,
WI 9/29/02 - Far Freaking Out! The show was excellent - you guys
were tight, had great energy, and the music was wonderful. Thanks
for a great evening!
This
was a breakthrough performance for us. It marked the first time
someone was selling grilled cheese in front of the venue for one
of our shows. We've finally arrived.
I
must admit at first, I was skeptical of a phish celebratory band.
I saw the 9/28 Metro show in Chicago. I was very impressed with
the show. Good job fellas, I would see you any time, possibly
more often than Phish since I can't get a $%&*ing ticket!
Saw
you guys in Indy and Bloomington, and wanted to make sure to thank
you for two of the best days I have had in a really long time,
two nights that will never be duplicated as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks again.
It's
true, they cannot be duplicated, ever.
I
saw you guys at Harper's Ferry in Boston, MA and you rocked! I
didn't want you guys to stop playing. Good atmosphere and good
playin! Thanx for a good Phix!
I
saw ya'll at Slamonfest this year and I skipped Grisman to see
ya'll and you didn't disappoint at all! It was a most righteous
and bitchin show and I'd love to see you again.
We
were about to go see Grisman ourselves, but then realized people
might be coming to see us, so we decided to stay and play, and
that's when we saw you!
Just
wanted you guys to know I was so bummed not to get tickets to
the holiday run and I saw the listing in the paper for you guys
and I was like what the hell, it won't be that good as I've seen
Phish covered before and it had no mojo and then I'm like I need
to hear the tunes live so I went down to Harper's Ferry in Allston
and came in during Divided and I'm like grinning a mile wide and
I'm like ok it's got the mojo and danced my ass off. Just wanted
to thank you for bringing me out of the darkness. See you next
time you play for us Massholes. Later!
Now
that you've seen the light, don't ever doubt the mojo. Later,
Masshole.
Hey
guys! Thanks again for such an amazing, wonderful, phantastic
time last night. You guys were great! Please come back to the
East coast soon so we can see you play again!
Last
night at the Recher in Towson, MD, was my first Phix. And I must
say WOW! I was extremely impressed with your musicianship. Not
only are you four amazing musicians to begin with, but I very
much enjoyed your ability to not only recreate a fantastic Phish
experience, but also take many of those songs and make them your
own. I've got to say that the Divided Sky was better than the
two times I've seen Phish play it live, and that's saying A LOT!
It's by far one of my favorite songs ever, and you took me to
a place I rarely go. Way to go. The Mike's song was superb, as
was the unique style of your Antelope. Thank you guys very much
for doing what you do.
We
love going to that place where we rarely go (our own beds). Thanks
for the kind words.
I
went to the show last night in Raleigh and I totally loved it.
I had the best time ever. You guys are great. I just wanted to
write to tell you that you are doing a great thing with your talent
and I enjoyed every minute of the show. Thank you for the best
night ever.
Best
night ever? We thought the Raleigh show was particularly good,
too, but best night ever?! COOL!
Hey
guys that was great stuff the other night I was really impressed.
After the show I was so hoarse I could not even talk. I was a
singing dancin' fool, that place was rockin'! I'm ready and waiting
for new years. I will be there for the next time you guys come
around with that sleeping monkey! Hope the rest of the tour goes
just as well.
We'll
try and get the monkey to wake up next time. Tour was great!
I
saw your show in Athens on the 14th and you guys truly rocked.
I had to leave early because of a friend, but i'd really love
to see you guys again! Come back to GA soon!
Doesn't
sound like a true friend to me... We'll be back, alright.
Boys!
What a friggin' blast!!! We came truly for a phix & to help
settle our woes of rejections from "mail order" for
NYE & Hampton. Y'all were a lot of fun & really set a
high vibe for the future homecoming on the east coast. I think
the crowd had a great time 'cause y'all seemed to be having such
a good time up there. I am totally down with the phantasy setlists
- super idea. I was hoping for that DWD!! It really was lots of
fun - I danced my ass off...we'll see ya next time around!
Yes
indeed, ma'am, we kindly appreciate it and we'll get back to your
parts right quick!
I
thought it was pretty interesting. It was the first time I have
ever seen a phish cover band and didn't really know what to expect.
I was delightfully suprised. You really nailed the YEM opening.
Not bad!!!
Yeah,
we don't suck, eh?!!!
Just
wanted to drop you guys a quick note and thank you for a kickass
show in Charlotte on Sunday. I wasn't sure what to expect, but
to say the least I am extremely impressed! Thank you. I stuck
around in Charlotte for an extra day to see the show, and it was
well worth it.
We
had a great time touring through North Carolina, and Charlotte
was no exception. Thanks!
I
really want to thank you guys for one of the most unbelievable
nights Ive ever had. Im still reeling from it. You
guys have such a good thing going on. I put myself in an objective
position and it was still like seeing Phish in a club scene with
the perfect crowd density. I enjoyed my dream set and you guys
blew all of the songs and crowd out of the water.
One
of the lucky winners! You see, dreams really can come true.
I
saw you guys at the Georgia Theatre in Athens and I thought ya'll
were great. It was really awesome to hear some live phish again.
I didn't think anyone could really capture phish's sound, but
you guys proved me wrong. Thanks for a great show.
And
we did it with just a spool of twine, a spent orange juice can,
two paper clips and a section of garden hose...
I
just recently saw you guys at the Cotton Club in Atlanta. I don't
think I have danced that hard since my last Phish show. You guys
played very well.....maybe someday you should move on to play
some originals...i think you all have it in you. Thanks for a
great time!
Actually
we used to play originals, in different groups, but we decided
to move on to Phish tunes. We still have it in us, and it'll come
out again. This is just a little exercise to get our chops up.
I
was thoroughly impressed by the show at Pop's. It made me feel
so good just to have the sounds channel through me. I had a story
to tell you all about the Mr. Roboto tease in PYITE. I was at
work that same morning at the Casino Queen and I heard over the
music system Mr. Roboto. I thought to myself how cool it would
be to hear Phish do that song. And when you guys busted that out
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was trying to explain
it to anyone I could grab because I was totally freaked out! I
know it sounds nuts but it REALLY did happen. Thank you very much
for giving us a wonderful night of good music and good phriends.
Wierd!
Being from Chicago, Paul and Derek are such HUGE Styx fans that
it was only a matter of time until they slipped that in. Ever
wonder how we got our name? Coincidence? I think not.
At
first I had mixed emotions about the idea of a phish cover band.
I was checking out the website when I ran across the Phriendly
Words page. Reading what these people said influenced me to download
some of your tunes. I have never heard a band play phish songs
that sound like phish until now. I'll be at the show!
To be honest, at first we had mixed emotions about being in a
Phish cover band. Hearing what people said at the shows influenced
us to keep doing it and bring it out to more people. And that's
the same reason we're still doing it!
Terrific
job in covering the greatest band on the planet. It was not an
easy task to bust out all of the classic tunes in the same show
and you guys pulled it off without a hitch.
Greatest
band on THIS planet maybe, but have you heard that new funk outfit
from Uranus?
Saw
your two shows at Quixote's in Denver this summer. I was a bit
skeptical about a Phish cover band, but you guys jammed.
Thanks.
We are skeptical of Phish cover bands, too. We wish one would
come through Colorado so we could check them out!
I
thought your show at Quixote's was one big ball of fun...you know
a big rubbery fun ball. What I'm trying to say is that I enjoyed
it.
Hi
ya!! I just wanted to... needed to, tell you just how awesome
you guys are!!! I saw you guys in Quixote's, In Denver CO (the
DeadHead Bar) You had my frendz and I boogying all night long..
I closed my eyes and I felt like I was shaking it at a Phish show!
It was a great feeling! I was right up in the front row, smiling
at ya and watching you beautiful guys just smile back at all us!!
It was a great time! THANX!! You guys are beautiful! Keep doing
what you're doing! You guys are so much more than a tribute band,
and I can't wait to see you guys in my home town!!
Ah,
Quixote's... Classic. So you were in the front row and you still
think we're beautiful? They do make a strong drink there... God
bless you, and Quixote's.
I
saw you at the House of Blues in Chicago a couple of months ago.
I was skeptical at first, but slowly came around. I think lizards
was my turning point and from then on I was dancing my ass off.
The
Lizards are very powerful in that respect.
Wonderful
show. Much more than just a cover band. Can't wait to see you
guys again.
Alright
- who told you we were a wedding band, too?! JUST KIDDING! Thanks.
I
was wanderin around your Website late last night and found that
collection of MP3s you guys have, and downloaded Harry Hood, one
of my favorite phish jams, one that I've probably heard over 50
versions of so i know it inside and out, and seriously I listened
to your version and it was incredible. Damn good, you really rocked
out near the end, honestly blew away all my expectations. It's
so tight too, I've heard sloppier Phish versions than the one
you played on that mp3.
Thanks
a lot. It's been said that, on our best day, we approach Their
greatness on Their worst day.
I
haven't seen ya'll in person yet, but someone referenced me to
your site, and I've been listening to your mp3's, and I have to
say that I think what you are doing is totally great, and hopefully
I will be able to catch ya when you come to Chicago. Seriously
as I've been listening to this throughout the day, I've had to
remind myself that this WAS NOT Phish, especially during Divided
Sky, sick sick sick... Your attitude seems to be really cool in
regards to the way you go about this, (a lot of "cover bands"
are real dorky, but yours seems to be with a different mindset)
I wish you all the best of luck in whatever other endeavors your
involved in. Thank you for helping keep the music alive and for
helping us or at least those who've seen ya get our PHIX...
Ha!
We fooled you - we really are dorks! But seriously, it's great
that so many people, like yourself, have been able to see through
the mucky-muck and appreciate the motive behind this project,
and, thus, get all of the enjoyment possible out of it.
I
was told good things so I traveled from St. Louis to see them
@ the Blue Note in Columbia, Mo. Very impressed. At points I could
have thought I was at a Phish show. Can't wait to see Salmonfest!
Salmonfest
was great - many thanks to everyone who came out. Also can't wait
to get back to the Blue Note.
The
show was awesome. I saw Phix in Indiana. I was 8' from the band
and it sounded like phish. The ticket was the best $5 I've ever
spent at any show. Rock on and come back soon. All my friends
know now, so you might need a larger venue. P.S. Enjoy those beautiful
mountains in Colorado for me 'cause we are pretty level out here.
Indy
has been good to us. Currently enjoying them mountains...
A
big North Carolina howdy to you all! I saw you guys play in Colorado
Springs in March while I was on Spring Break. LOVED THE SHOW!
So much energy and good vibes floating around. I was with my best
friend's little son who loved you guys. Keep the jams coming!
Can't wait to see you guys on the east!
We
love the kids, especially the one you were with that night - Man!
That kid, at 2, is a way better dancer than anyone in this band.
Great
thing you guys are doing! Sounds are uniquely your own, but the
underlying framework is well founded. Hope to see you on the east
coast soon.
Done...
I
saw you guys in the House of Blues in Chicago in early June. It
was a GREAT show. It always makes a show great when you see the
band get into the music the way you guys do. You should come to
the southeast (GA); people would love your show. Keep up the good
work.
...and
done!
I
am currently in the US Navy and only have a few weeks left. I
listened to the tracks on the website (KICK ASS!!!!!)... Well
I'm glad to see that someone is doing what you are doing and I
would be glad to help in any way. Good luck guys and I hope to
hear from ya soon. Enjoy thyself.
Saw
the show at the Bluebird (Denver),
and was blown away. There were points when I thought I was at
an actual Phish show. Loved getting my Phix!!
What
a great room the Bluebird is! Many Thanks and Kudos to John Brown's
Body for playing with us that night - those guys are the real
deal.
I've
played around on your website enough to see that I'm not the only
phan who finds you guys unbelievable. I had a great time at my
first Phix show at the House of Blues in Chicago. I definitely
don't agree with the dude who thought you guys should try out
the Dark Star thing of recreating actual shows - I like your approach
of jamming to a unique line up that Phish hasn't played - this
way it is more like the songs on my mind just rocking out loud
one after another. I applaud all your talent, but also appreciate
your phriendly vibe that is too often left behind when music becomes
a business. Thanks and thanks some more...
and
some more and some more...
We
had the opportunity to see you at Farmapalooza. We were at our
camp site that morning and could hear music coming from the main
stage and thought that someone was doing a sound check with a
phish show! We walk up to find YOU! We were floored to say the
least. Can't wait to see you guys again. Thanks for keeping the
vibe alive.
Nothing
like waking up to music at a festival, is there? Thanks a lot
for the kind words.
Saw
you at Schwagstock and Black River Music Fest in Missouri. I think
your sound is right on the mark. Also, what are your plans on
having a Phixphest?
We
had some great fest stops on our June tour. Perhaps a Phixphest
next summer...
You
guys Rocked my world at the Farmapalooza Festival!!! I had lots
of fun watching you guys play. I wish you guys were coming up
here again during this tour but I guess I'll have to find a way
to find you some where else. I cant wait to see you again.
Thanks,
we wish we could have stuck around a bit longer at Farmapalooza,
but we had to go play another show that night 5 hours away. It
was a great vibe and we hope to be invited back again next year.
Saw
PHIX at the Black River Music Festival in Lesterville, MO in June.
Loved it. Would love to see you play in Dallas.
We'd
love to play Dallas, but didn't that show get cancelled back in
the 80s?
Just
wanted to thank you for making Schwagstock (or Hoodstock as we
all preferred to call it) the funnest weekend I've had in a long
time. I also wanted to thank you boys for what you are doing.
- phunky bitch
What
we're doing is all fun, we want to thank you for making Schwagstock
and so many other shows such a great time.
Man,
you guys are pretty sick, keep up the hard work. Why don't you
shoot up to cleveland instead of/or after Cincy. I need to boogie
before Bonnaroo...
We'd
love to do Cleveland, since Chris is from near there, but Cincy
would turn out to be the only Ohio date for the June '02 tour.
I
saw you guys play last night at the House of Blues, and I was
completely amazed. It was definitely a good phix while we wait.
You guys need to come back to Chicago more often. I loved the
PYITE opener!
Actually,
we've played there more than anywhere outside of Colorado (5 times
and more on the way).
it
was very phun!!!!! so much love and happiness. you guys are great
at what you do...keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!
It's
all about the fun, love and happiness!
I
go to school in boulder and saw you guys on 5/1/02 at the Fox
for the first time and you blew my mind... gotta jibboo and stash
were really fun... but next time you guys should get on the tramps
:)
Ah,
yeah, you see, there's something in our insurance policy or something
that doesn't cover us in a tramp-related accident, so you know
how that goes...
I
just discovered your website thru rmp and after listening to the
mp3s I'm TERRIBLY impressed.
I
just discovered your message through my IN Box and after reading
the words I'm TERRIBLY happy, and thankful.
Just
rolled back into Steamboat after hitting Saturday and Sunday at
State Bridge. I've seen at least 25 State Bridge shows and that
was by far one of the best. First off, kudos to you guys for taking
up the hammer. Sooner or later someone was going to do it, and
after this weekend, I trust the four of you in doing it well.
Your energy was all positive and just as importantly: fun. Sometimes
I couldn't tell who was having more fun, us or you. I have a personal
list of bands who tour frequently through my neck of the woods
that I never miss, and you have jammed your way onto that list.
That
was one of the funnest times we've had since we started this thing.
Having the chance to hang out and play with Shakedown at a place
like State Bridge was just too much fun. We prefer jamming and
sleeping our way onto lists rather than buying or cheating our
way onto them...Thanks!
I
MANAGED TO GET A SHOW FROM A FRIEND, ON SOME THINGS I THOUGHT
IT WAS PHISH!!! YOU GUY ROCK.
Thanks
- I guess that's what we're shooting for. We know of some people
who've swindled some money betting on that type of thing. Of course,
we don't condone that kind of behavior, but it could be done...
I
saw the show in Ft. Collins at the Aggie Theater, and I thought
the show was excellent!!!!!
We
had a blast at the Aggie - one of the best, most enthusiastic
crowds yet. Our only complaint was the police chaperone backstage...what
the ph@#%?!
I
was at the Fox on 5-1-02 and OH MY GOD! THESE BOYS ROCKED! Thank
You for the SWEET Harry Hood! That was the Phix I needed.
Hood
won the "Crowd picks the encore" contest - the precursor
to "Phixing" the whole show, which is what we are currently
doing.
Your
show on May 1st at the Fox in Boulder kicked ass, I had such an
amazing time....
So
did we...thanks.
I
have had a lot of fun at the past couple of shows I have been
too. I am really amazed at how well you guys infuse your own style
into the jams, and not try to copy Phish too much, but still manage
to bring back that crazy feeling you get when you hear a really
unique jam. I definitely think that you guys take it to that "next
level" that so few bands actually get to.
Thanks
for the kind words. One of the coolest things about playing Phish
music is that, even with all of the parts of the music that are
so carefully composed and orchestrated, there's still a TON of
room for our own creativity--in a way, that's why we're doing
it.
I
went to the Hermans Hideaway show last night, I think what you
guys are doing is great, it felt so good to hear live Phish tunes
again. Thanx a lot.
No,
thanx you.
You
guys are the only band I ever heard that is good enough to consider
yourself a Phish tribute band. Keep it up!!!
Thanks,
and sorry to those who didn't make the cut.
The
Sky at Tulagi was more inspired than any Sky I've seen Phish play
since '96. The Hood at Tulagi was excellent. The Mike's at Tulagi
was dark, dark, dark, excellent. The Stash at the Fox was everything
I loved about 93-95 Phish, which I feel was their best period.
Blazing psychadelic exploration, full of angst and moodiness.
The Bag at the Fox was alot of fun also. Keep it up, keep growing...
Thanks!
We like that period, too. Always growing...
Blew
my mind at Tulagi's and the Fox. rock on!
We
made it to the show on tuesday and it blew our minds. Thank you
so much for that....you guys are truly amazing musicians...I must
give you a huge hand for being able to whip out those jams...wowza!
The
Fox is a truly amazing place to play...wowza is right!
I
just went to your show at Tulagi last night and it was some good
shit. Your Divided was great, so was your Horn, PYITE, and Rift.
I was very impressed by you guys and you definitely live up to
your name. I feel a thousand times better this morning than I
did last. Thanks guys!
No problem - that was our first Boulder gig, a last-minute show
to replace Taboot, a Phish Tribute from Minnesota that had to
cancel a day or two before. It made us feel better, too.
Saw
you for the first time at the Grottos in Aspen on Saturday night....WOW!....you
guys are impressive....i really enjoyed the grooves and chops
that were layed down....i will try to catch you whenever i can.
As
someone who has lived in the Springs for 2 years, I can tell you
that was probably the most fun I've had at a bar here in the Springs.
This town lacks so severely in the live music department and I
was happy to come out to support some great music in a great place.
Awe, come on, the Springs ain't
so bad - probably better than Palm Springs, no?
I
had a great time at your show. You guys are really good, my boyfriend
and I were totally impressed.
Boyfriend?! But you told me...
Just
wanted to say you guys rocked the house at the Utopia. I was impressed
to say the least. I'm a Phish-head living in Denver and caught
the word about the show. It's good music, ya know?
Yeah, we know. Thanks for the kind
words.
you
better believe that was fun. special thanks for the ppphhhhaaattt
2001 and the chalkdust opener was superb. fear not that I, we,
have already been telling everyone about the upcoming show, especially
those who were too dumb to come out last time. that music is my
life's blood and you guys play it very well. this next show is
exactly a week and a day after my birthday and you can be sure
i will be topping of my birthday week with a phriendly phix at
the utop. -Russ Meyer
thank you Mr. Meyer...
I
thought the music rocked, but I think I would have been into it
more if they played a complete Phish show like Dark Star Orchestra
does with Dead music. This makes it more of a concert feeling,
rather than sitting at a bar and listening to live music.
We're working on that feeling.
Rather than copying Dark Star's idea we have decided to let the
people pick the setlists. We're working for the Phan!
In
response to the above message...
bah! don't do anything different. those shows were a specific
moment in time and were never meant to happen again and i don't
really believe that they can be duplicated. the whole idea of
jam band music is that it flows and changes like a living thing.
that is what is great about it. that is why i go to every show
i go to. - Russ Meyer
ah, Russ, your wisdom exceeds your
years. once again, thank you Mr. Meyer... the vultures are coming.
I
thought it was FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
Fuckin'-A Right!
you
guys kick ASS!!!!!
Please
play: The Garden Song, Shake a Tail Feather, Shout, Old Fashion
Rock and Roll, Proud Mary, Hot Nuts, Memphis, My Ding A Ling.
Thanks for writing, Dad.
And
now what you've all been waiting for...
The
Not-So-Phriendly Words!
We
don't usually bother to reply to these; they pretty much speak
for themselves. What can you say? The usually seem to come from
people who have never seen us before. And they are certainly entitled
to their opinions--of course we are not surprised that there are
some people out there who don't like the idea of a "Phish
cover band." Still, the bitterness and cynicism sometimes
surprises us. But we would like to say once again that we do this
because the music is so amazing and because we all love it so
much. That's all, plain and simple. Those who don't like it are
free to excercise their red-blooded American right NOT to come
see us; the rest of us will be at the shows having fun.
It's
just sad that you cant come up with music on your own. Music is
not here to be recreated. Once the music is created, its here
forever. Although PHISH is the greatest band to walk the face
of our green earth, playing their music is just lame. Come on,
be fucking creative. I think it is pathetic that people actually
pay money to see your shows. Who the fuck do you think you are,
playing phish's beautiful melodies and letting people clap for
you like you did anything special. Big fucking deal. You can cover
a song that was written by genius'. Awesome guys, truly awesome.
Utilize your own talent and share in the groove. That's what PHISH
is all about right? Sharing in the groove, not stealing the groove.
You truly suck for playing music that has already been created.
Fuck you, and fuck the people that think you are worthy enough
to promote your sorry asses. You are no talent ass clowns and
deserve no respect, for you steal from other artists, and everything
you do is absolutely worthless. How dare you...I mean...I just
can't fathom how you can respect yourselves knowing that you take
what the PHISh have given to us and "recreate it". Either
share in the groove, or get the fuck out of the spotlight...either
way.. until I see something creative, fuck you, and everything
you stand for you worthless pieces of shit. It really and honestly
hurts me to know that someone is being praised for the genius
of another. Please, stop what your doing, sit down, and write
a letter of apology to the band.
You
guys suck fetid goat balls.
We
prefer them broiled, with marinara sauce and a little parmesan
cheese.
Really...
You've got to have something better to do. Write some of your
own shit and see who comes out. Seems sad to spend your musical
careers as scrap whores. From, A real performer and songwriter...
Get
a life. Seriously make you own music way try to make money on
something someone else already did very well. You guys have the
talent
.get a life
hello,
i truly can't believe this is real. the members of phish would
probably be outraged if they knew this was happening. first of
all, who in their right mind would want to attract phish phans
to a concert. i believe that the fans are part of the reason the
band is on a hieatus. secondly, phish is not dead, there is no
reason for a tribute band. To be totally honest, i think ya'll
are ridiculus. either you have no musical creativity, or the corporate
forest of boulder colorado has fried your mind. i strongly urge
ya'll to reconsider what you are doing. not only because you're
unoriginal, but because what you're doing is morally, emotionally,
and ethically wrong. i apologize if i have offended any one of
you but this is how i whole heartedly feel. sincerely, an oldschool
phish phan.
You
guys are total bullshit. You're obviously skilled musicians, but
there are millions of those out there. Do something creative and
make YOUR OWN MUSIC. And your response to that is "well,
people like it" Yes but if you want to just be popular...be
Brittany Fucking Spears. The "Popular" vote is by no
means a qualification of worth. Your lack of creativity disgusts
me. You will no doubt try to take advantage of "the boys'"
hiatus and once you have some stupid fans you will try to include
some "original" music which will be laughed at. I think
it's very insulting to take the easy way and use somebody else's
hard work to further your own career. Get a life!!!!
This was written by an insightful onlooker in response to the
tantrum above:
Just thought I'd share a few things with you regarding being a
cover band that I thought of while reading the "not so phriendly
words."
When someone is put on a pedestal (figuratively), whether great
or small, there is some drive in the human spirit that wants to
knock them off. That is the basis for all the problems associated
with being famous in any manner. So here comes the dilemma regarding
being in a cover band and/or tribute band. "That's not original,
learn to play your own fucking songs you non-creative no-talent
hacks!" What these people don't realize, and never will never
realize is that music is FUN. And just because you're playing
someone else's songs doesn't mean that they're not original. Phish
is great because of their improvisation, and how could any band
ever comlpletely mimic a band that improvises differently every
time they play a song? And even a band that in his eyes is 100%
original is not that at all. Hmmm, how many people used the 1,4,5
chord progression to write a song? Almost everybody. So that makes
you technically a Bach rip-off (or whoever came before him). I
thought your analogy with the symphony was dead on. Anyway, the
four of you share a love for the music of Phish, and what's more
fun than playing the songs that they wrote? People like the anonymous
Email-er don't know how to even try and look through the eyes
of someone else. He/she doesn't know you. You could have a family,
a "real" job, and playing in Phix is what you do to
get your phix of creativity and maybe a little bit of money. Or
maybe you do it for some other reason. The fact is, this person
never tried to understand you, he simply attacked you blindly.
The problems of this world would be far less anger-driven and
violent if only humans learned the idea of constructive criticism
and healthy argumentation. AND more importantly, that people have
opinions and just because you think it so, doesn't make it so...
Have fun.
